DIY Motor Home Roofing

    • 1). Wash the roof with dish washing soap and water. Allow to dry. Clean oil and grease with rubber roof cleaner.

    • 2). Scrape off all loose areas of existing material. Remove brittle and flaking caulk with the wire brush. Do not force the material off. Remove rust from metal with the wire brush.

    • 3). Apply contact cement to all loose edges. Allow to dry for the time indicated by the manufacturer.

    • 4). Repair all torn rubber areas with the rubber repair and sealing tape.

    • 5). Wash the roof with dish washing soap and water. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

    • 6). Remove the air conditioner from the motor home. Scrape off old gasket material. Replace with a new gasket.

    • 7). Mix the liquid rubber in the five-gallon bucket with the drill and mixer according to the manufacturer's directions.

    • 8). Apply the liquid rubber around vent flashing and edges with the paint brush using long, slow brush strokes. Apply to all small areas with the paint brush.

    • 9). Pour the liquid rubber onto the roof. Spread with the squeegee. Smooth the liquid rubber with the paint roller.

      Leave the motor home in the sun to cure.

    • 11

      Replace the air conditioner in the roof.
