First Digital Camera - 5 Tips For Choosing Your First Digital Camera

When you begin looking for your first digital camera you may feel a little overwhelmed.
I recommend starting out with a less expensive camera at first, then take the time to experiment and build your digital photo knowledge and skills.
When you make that first digital camera purchase it's important that you feel good about your choice.
What Should You Be Thinking About ? What Camera Is Right For You 1.
If you are intimidated by technology or you would like the camera to make the decisions about the best setting for your photos, a point and shoot camera may be what you need.
But on the other hand, if you want more control or see yourself in the future taking photography as a serious hobby, a camera with more manual settings like focus, speed and exposure controls are probably your best choice.
Megapixels 2.
A digital cameras resolution is measured in megapixels.
This means the higher the megapixels the larger the image can be printed with clarity.
Anything above 5 megapixels should be capable of images up to 8x10 size prints.
Optical Zoom 3.
The optical zoom on a camera involves physically moving the lens with a motor.
Most cameras will come with 2x to 5x zoom capability.
If you are interested in shooting close- ups with your friends and for most uses, this is fine.
Remember this is your first camera.
Memory Cards 4.
Memory cards can be thought of as the film for a digital camera.
They store the picture images, they are removable from the camera, and can be downloaded to your PC or in a photo-lab.
The amount of photos a memory card will hold is determined by the amount of megapixels your camera has.
Battery Life 5.
Digital cameras typically burn through a lot of batteries.
If you want to take quality photos your camera must be powered for extended periods of time.
Make sure you choose a camera that has good battery life.
I also recommend using Lithium - Ion batteries, they will be cheaper to use in the long run and they will give you power for great photos for longer periods of time.
My final note on purchasing that first digital camera is to continue to gain knowledge and skill, but keep your mind focused on the fun you will have with that new camera!
