- The first series of the 912 was made from 1965 to 1969 and was based on the early 911 in short wheelbase form and in 1969, long wheelbase form. The five-lug bolt pattern is the same for the two models, as is the offset of the wheel. From 1965 to 1969, the 912 was offered with 15-by-4.5-inch steel wheels, and later on, with 15-by-5.5-inch steel wheels. During this time, 911s came with the same steel wheels, with the exception of the 911S, which came with wider Fuchs alloys.
- The later 912E, made in 1976 only, was based on the mid-year 911 and was offered with a 15-by-5.5-inch steel wheel and a 14-by-5.5-inch pressure cast Fuchs alloy. The 911S wore a 15-by-6-inch Fuchs alloy, with the exception of the Carrera, which had 15-by-6-inch front and 15-by-7-inch rear wheels, or optionally 15-by-7-inch front and 15-by-8-inch rear wheels. The 911 Turbo featured 15-by-7-inch front and 15-by-8-inch rear wheels.
- While all 912 wheels will fit an a narrow body 911, with varying degrees of correctness, the reverse is not true. Some later 911s came with wheels that are far too wide for the 912.
