How to Hook Up an In-dash DVD Player in a 1989 Chevy S-10

    • 1). Open the glove box. Remove the two screws on the right side of the stereo using a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the ashtray. Remove the screw behind the ashtray using the Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the plastic dash panel away from the dashboard.

    • 2). Unbolt the stereo from the dashboard using a 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Pull it out of the dash and unplug the connections by hand. Set the stereo to the side.

    • 3). Install the metal cage included with the in-dash DVD player into the vehicle-specific dash kit using a flat head screwdriver. Strip 1/4 inch of wire off the end of the harness of the in-dash DVD player and the vehicle-specific wiring harness using wire strippers.

    • 4). Match up the wires on both wiring harnesses and join them together with the wire crimpers and blue butt connectors. Locate the wire on the in-dash DVD player harness labeled "Emergency Brake." Run this wire to the parking brake pedal on the left side of the dashboard. Cut the single wire plugged into the parking brake pedal with the wire cutters and strip both ends of this wire with the wire strippers. Crimp a blue butt connector onto one side of the wire with the wire crimpers, and twist together the wire from the DVD player and the bare wire from the parking brake pedal, then put the pair of wires into the other end of the butt connector and crimp them together, joining the wire from the deck to the wire for the parking brake.

    • 5). Mount the vehicle-specific dash kit into the dashboard using the 1/4-inch ratchet and socket. Plug the GM antenna adapter into the factory antenna cable in the dashboard. Plug one end of the harness you created in Step 4 to the wiring harness from the S-10 then plug the other end into the back of the DVD player. Plug the antenna lead from the adapter into the back of the DVD player then push the DVD player into the dash kit.

    • 6). Reinstall the dashboard trim using the Phillips head screwdriver.
