E39 Angel Eyes Instructions

    What You Will Need

    • The easiest and most reliable way to convert your headlights to Angel Eyes is by purchasing a complete pair of headlights from a vendor like Euro Sport Design. It is possible to convert a pair of non-Angel Eye headlamps, but this is more difficult.

Before installing your new headlights, make sure you have the proper ballasts for the headlights by comparing your existing headlight ballast mounting bracket with the ballast mounting bracket that comes with the kit. If you do have the right ballasts, obtain them before continuing. You will also need a Y-harness to split the old single harness for the turn signal and parking lights into two separate harnesses for the Angel Eyes. The installation of the headlight requires basic tools such as a socket set and a screwdriver.

    Remove the Old Headlights

    • Remove the existing headlights by unbolting the four bolts that hold each headlight assembly on. Disconnect the wires that go to the backs of the lights. Remove the new mounting brackets from the new CELIS headlight assembly by unscrewing the two screws and sliding the bracket off. Remove the old mounting bracket that is still on the car and that will not be used. This is also held on with two screws. On most E39s, the passenger side air conditioning filler tube will need to be bent to allow the CELIS assembly to fit. The best way to do this is to use a pipe-bending tool, though it can be done by hand if you are careful.

    Install the Angel Eyes

    • Install the new bracket that you just removed from the CELIS assembly. Remove the body-colored trim piece from the old headlight assembly and install it onto the CELIS assembly. Use caution to avoid breaking anything. Split the existing turn signal/parking light connector into two separate plugs by using the new Y-connector. Connect the new wires. Slide the CELIS assembly in place and bolt it to the car. Check to make sure the lights are all functioning. Have the headlights aligned professionally by a shop to ensure they are going to deliver safe and proper lighting.
