- The installation process can be broken down into two steps: the installation of the camera and the installation of the monitor. Since backup cameras are wireless, you will not have to run a wire from the monitor to the camera, but both the camera and the monitor need their own power sources. Before starting the installation, read the manual that came with your backup camera system. Also, review the instruction video listed in the References section; the video will give you a good overall understanding of the installation process.
- The camera is mounted to the bottom of your license plate with the hardware supplied in your camera system kit. The camera gets power from the backup light, so you will need to route the power wires from the bottom of your license plate to your tail light assembly. Once the wires are routed, you can connect the power wires to the backup lamp wires using the supplied Scotch-splice connectors. When you place your vehicle in reverse, the reverse lights will illuminate and the camera will come on.
- Installing the monitor is even easier than installing the camera. Simply select a location on your dash or windshield that does not impair your view. Clean the area where you will stick the monitor with a non-residue cleaner, such as Windex. Remove the backing paper from the double-sided tape on the monitor stand and stick the monitor to the area you have selected. Insure you have chosen the area well, because it is difficult to remove the monitor and re-install it once it has been adhered. Press the monitor in place for a minute or two. The monitor comes with a power supply cable, which plugs into the monitor and into your cigarette lighter. If you wish to connect the monitor permanently to your vehicle power, you may do so. However, this does require more preparation and more technical understanding of your vehicle wiring, and is best done by a trained professional.
