Guide Review - Megu
Megu is probably not your best choice if you're on a budget. On the other hand, if you're going to splurge on a magnificent dinner, it's hard to imagine a better place to do it than Megu.
First, there's the dramatic decor, providing a glamorous backdrop for any meal. At the original Tribeca location, the centerpiece of the main dining area is an enormous temple bell suspended over a 5-foot ice sculpture. Tables are spaced generously for comfort and privacy.
We dined at Megu on a Thursday night and waited twenty minutes past our reservation time to be seated. However, once we were at our table, our skilled and courteous waiter took care of us beautifully.
Most importantly, the food was exceptional from appetizer through dessert. Standout dishes included the Kobe beef croquette appetizer, the silver cod yuan miso, and a Kobe sirloin steak that melted in our mouths.
The sushi rolls were also ridiculously tasty, served with fresh wasabi grated at the table. Even the dessert was a winner. The "chef's choice dessert" was some magic concoction of ice cream, red bean paste, and fruit. When my companion swiftly devoured his serving, our waiter silently reappeared with an extra plate.
