- 1). Open your Internet browser and log onto the RARLAB website (see Resources). Click on the Downloads link in the homepage, then click on the link for the trial version of WINRAR. Save the trial setup file to an easily accessed location on your computer. Double-click on the saved file to install WINRAR on your system. Select to integrate WINRAR with your Windows Explorer.
- 2). Click on the "Start" button on your toolbar, then select "Computer" from the pop-up start menu. Use the File explorer that opens to navigate to the directory containing the RAR file that you want to decode.
- 3). Right-click on the RAR file in your explorer directory. Select "Extract Here" to decode the contents of the file into the same directory as the RAR file. Select "Extract File" and use the new file explorer window that pops up to select a destination folder for the file contents. Click "OK" to proceed with the extraction.
- 4). Open the folder containing the decoded files and use them normally.
