- 1). Connect the wireless controller to your Xbox 360 console. It is often the case that your controller is not properly connected to the system. Turn on your Xbox 360 console and then press the "Connect" button located just underneath the disc drive. Turn on your wireless controller by pressing and holding the "Xbox Guide" button for three seconds. Then press the "Connect" button located on the top of the controller to the right of the controller port. The controller will sync up with the console.
- 2). Fully charge the controller battery. Remove the rechargeable battery pack from the back of your wireless controller and connect it to your Xbox 360 Quick Charge Kit. The recharging process can take three to four hours. When the charging light on the recharge kit is green, remove the battery and place it back into your wireless controller. Turn on your Xbox 360 console and then turn on your wireless controller by pressing and holding the "Xbox Guide" button on the center of the controller.
- 3). Move closer to your Xbox 360 console when you play. The wireless controller will lose signal if you are too far from the console while it is in use.
- 4). Open the wireless controller casing. A mixture of dirt, debris and sweat can build up inside the controller and cause the buttons to stick. Take your cotton swab, dip it in rubbing alcohol and wipe around the crevices of the stuck button. The alcohol will help dissolve the buildup around the stuck button. If that doesn't work, take your Torx screwdriver and remove the six screws located on the back of your controller casing. Open the casing, wipe the stuck button with the alcohol cotton swab and use your can of compressed air to remove debris and dirt from the inside of the controller. Screw the casing back on.
- 5). Return the controller as defective. If none of these steps helped you fix your wireless controller, the device is defective and you will need to return it. Microsoft does not offer controller repair as a service.
