Recent tax credits and production incentives given to filmmakers in Louisiana have boosted the state’s film projects in the past year. Louisiana residents interested in using film to contribute to the state’s cultural heritage have the additional benefit of applying for monetary grants. Most grants available to Louisiana filmmakers are offered by non-profit arts councils and private organizations in the state. - The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities is a not-for-profit organization that seeks to promote the cultural history of Louisiana while simultaneously encouraging artists, teachers and activists in the state. The organization has awarded more than $23.5 million in grant money to at least 2,100 projects in development since 1971. It offers documentary film and radio grants to any documentary film makers who seek to explore the history and culture of Louisiana through film. Interested applicants should submit a proposal to the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities by April 25th each year. The proposal should contain budget and budget narrative for a film’s production, pre-production and post-production expenses.

leh.org - The Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation & Tourism offers Divisions of the Arts grants for individuals and organizations through its Office of Cultural Development. Individual artists are eligible to apply for the grants if they are pursuing funds for an artist fellowship or for career advancement. Those art disciplines eligible for the grants include those in media, such as film, video, audio and experimental projects. The grant awards $5,000 to each artist fellowship and $1,500 to $3,000 to each artist seeking funds for career advancement. Those who receive the grant can only participate once every ten years. Each artist applying for a grant is judged by a review panel on his or her professional activity, work quality and clarity of project description.
