- A blister beetle has a large head. This insect is yellow striped or has yellow markings from time to time. It is a chewing insect, which means it chews holes in the leaves. This stunts the growth of the plants themselves, resulting in a reduced harvest.
- These insects are very small and are sometimes difficult to spot with the naked eye. The wings have a thin yellow stripe. These pests leave tiny holes the size of a pinprick on the foliage. When plants are not well established, they are more susceptible to an infestation, according to Colorado State University Extension.
- There are a number of insecticides designed to control black bugs that live on tomato plants. Regular spraying with an insecticidal soap can often remove these. Avoid planting tomatoes near corn, beans or potatoes. Rotate crops at least once every four years in order to reduce the occurrence of insects on tomatoes.
