Those interested in a Los Angeles walking tour have a wide variety of options from which to choose. The city is diverse and as full of history as it is celebrities and famous places. Those with an interest in history, automobiles, folk art, celebrities and even the Le Brea tar pits can find a tour that suits them. - As of 2010, Red Line Tours is the only tour company offering a walking tour of Hollywood. The Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes tour takes visitors to the home of the Oscars at the Kodak Theater, Grauman's Chinese Theater, Grauman's Egyptian Theater, Disney's El Capitan Theater and the Walk of Fame. The story of how Hollywood got its name is shared with tour participants as is the story of the famous Hollywood sign. The Hollywood Behind-the-Scenes tour is available year-round and departs seven days a week at 10 a.m., noon, 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. The tour is closed on Christmas Day and on the day of the Academy Awards. Tour reservations are not required but are recommended.

This 2½ hour tour leaves Pershing Square at 10 a.m. every Saturday morning and takes visitors on a walk through the story of Los Angeles as it grew from its founding in 1781 into the city it is today. Tour landmarks include the Biltmore Hotel, Mayflower Hotel, Los Angeles Central Library, Grand Central Market, Broadway Department Store and the US Bank Tower. Tour participants will view many different architectural building styles and learn the about the names behind the buildings. The tour covers 1½ miles of easy walking and is wheelchair accessible.

The tour begins on the corner of Wilshire Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue next to the parking lot of the tour's first stop, the Petersen Automotive Museum. This museum features special collections of cars including lowriders and those owned by celebrities. The next museum on the tour is the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, which is home to the largest encyclopedic art collection west of the Mississippi River. Next door is the Page Museum, featuring the many discoveries pulled from the La Brea Tar Pits. The Craft and Folk Art Museum finishes the tour with a collection of folk art pieces from around the world.
