- 1). Sing. Take every opportunity you have to sing. Join a choir, go to a karaoke bar or enter a talent contest.
- 2). Take voice lessons. Even the best athletes need coaches, and the same is true for singers. A voice coach can help train your range, perfect your pitch and even help you pick out the best songs to showcase your talent. It's also another opportunity to sing.
- 3). Make a demo tape. If you can afford some studio time, create a demo tape of your music. You can record covers, but it's usually a good idea to record at least one original piece. Consider getting some head shots to go with the demo tape.
- 4). Hire an agent. Talent agents will be hard to impress and you may spend a lot of time pounding pavement trying to get their attention. Perform for free at local community events and send invitations to local agencies. Be sure to include your demo and head shots as well with the invitation.
- 5). Persevere. Keep trying and don't give up. Television talent shows and talent scouts appear in multiple cities all over the U.S. Pop singers are discovered in the most unexpected places, but they all had one thing in common: they didn't give up.
