- 1). Measure the width between the wall studs and buy the proper insulation to fit the gap.
- 2). Measure the height of the wall cavity you will be insulating from floor to the ceiling.
- 3). Cut the insulation to fit. Lay the insulation on the floor, measure it to the height determined in Step 2 and cut with a utility knife.
- 4). Place the insulation between the studs, starting at the bottom and working your way to the top of the wall.
- 5). Cut insulation to fit around any obstructions such as outlets or pipes.
- 1). Remove all the baseboard, door casing and crown molding from wall with a flat bar.
- 2). Find any screws or nails holding the drywall on and remove using a claw hammer or screwdriver.
- 3). Cut the drywall and corners away from the ceiling and the other walls abutting the wall being insulated with a utility knife.
- 4). Pull the drywall off the wall and discard.
- 5). Check wall studs for any remaining nails or screws and remove them.
- 6). Measure the width between the wall studs and buy the proper insulation to fit the space.
- 7). Measure the height of the wall cavity that you will be insulating from the floor the ceiling, using a tape measure.
- 8). Cut the insulation to fit the space using a utility knife.
- 9). Place the insulation between the studs, starting at the bottom and working your way to the top of the wall. Take care to fit the insulation around outlets and other obstructions in the wall cavity.
