Acne Outbreaks and Your Pores - What"s the Connection?

You may be dealing with pimples several times every week, month or year but do you really know how everything starts out? Skin pores have a lot to do with the occurrence of unwanted zits.
Knowing the entire process will help you fully take advantage of your current situation as well as possible alleviate the risk of development.
Find out more about your pores.
Inside the Pore Basically, a pimple results when the skin pore is blocked by dead skin cells combining with excess oil or sebum.
The mixture forms a plug that irritates and causes swelling within the pore.
Bacteria are very likely to proliferate in the anaerobic environment thereby leading to pus development and infection.
Sebaceous glands which regularly produce sebum are found inside the pore.
Outer layers of skin continuously shed while the remaining dead skin cells are glued together by the sebum.
This gluing effect turns out to be a blockage in the pore.
Individuals entering puberty may experience more problems of this kind since their skin is thicker at this stage.
Different causes will also cause excess production of sebum which continues to accumulate behind the plug, harboring and allowing bacteria to proliferate.
The pain felt is partly due to the inflammation in the pore as well as the widening of skin around leukocytes or white blood cells.
People and Pores A lot of people unknowingly stimulate excess production of sebum thereby increasing their risk of developing acne.
Scrubbing too hard on the skin when washing, frequent touching by hands and frequent washing are all techniques that can actually worsen the problem.
When the skin becomes too dry, follicles and sebaceous glands are signaled to produce more sebum to correct the problem.
However, rubbing too hard on the skin tends to push plugs deeper and induces the gluing effect that creates pore blockage.
People should avoid squeezing their pimples and removing blackheads the wrong way.
It is best to allow the pimple to fully mature.
Doing anything drastic during earlier stages will only lead to damaged pores, further infection and scarring.
Be cautious about friction since this closes the pore over the plug which makes extraction more difficult.
Manual extraction of plugs should also be done carefully since the pore might get damaged and won't fully return to its original size.
What You Can Do Invest in antibacterial oil-free cleansers and soaps that effectively manage acne outbreaks.
Wash your face at least twice a day.
You may use an exfoliant 2 to 3 times per week depending on your skin's needs.
Avoid pricking pimples.
Instead, take a hot clean washcloth and put it gently on the mature pimple to let it drain.
Blackheads should be removed using a professional tool or a sterile pin.
Use the pin and aim right at the center of the blackhead then slowly extract.
Some individuals report that applying ice directly on your skin right after washing or exfoliating will help close up pores and prevent post-treatment inflammation and scarring.
Use makeup sparingly since this tends to clog up pores as well.
At best, use water-based cosmetic products and wash off immediately when you get home.
Stay away from alcohol-based astringents and creams since these tend to dry up the skin which may trigger overproduction of sebum.
It is a myth that chocolates can cause acne.
However, eating oily and greasy finger foods then putting your hands on your face without washing will place unnecessary irritants on the pores leading to breakouts.
Wash your hands with soap and water after every meal or snack.
Treating Pores at Home A number of natural products are known to be beneficial for skin condition and tightening the pores.
Try applying 1 teaspoon of honey mixed with 1 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil on problem areas.
Allow the mixture to set for 5 to 10 minutes.
You may want to add a second coating after the first 5 minutes.
Other useful products include apples, cucumbers and papayas which may be sliced and directly placed over the skin or blended and mixed with essential oils like jojoba or myrrh.
These are highly useful in reducing inflammation and closing up pores to prevent dirt and other irritants from entering.
