- 1). Keep the soil wet, to a depth of 6 inches, at all times. It can also be grown in a boggy environment with its roots under water. If the soil dries out the plant will drop its leaves and flowers.
- 2). Add 2 inches of mulch to the soil around the garden-planted marsh marigolds to help retain moisture. Pine needles are the ideal mulch for this plant.
- 3). Fertilize the marsh marigold in spring, just prior to it producing new growth, but only if it failed to thrive the previous season. Marsh marigolds generally don't require fertilizer. Use a water-soluble 10-10-10 fertilizer, at the rate listed by the fertilizer manufacturer.
