- Suboxone is available in tablet form as well as a packaged film, according to Suboxone.org. Both products are designed to be taken sublingually (dissolved under the tongue). Neither product should be taken by anyone hypersensitive to either buprenorphine or naloxone.
- Patients can become physically dependent on Suboxone, so it must be taken exactly as prescribed. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache, insomnia, pain, sweating and other symptoms of withdrawal.
- Suboxone should be used as one part of a treatment strategy for opioid addiction, along with counseling. Only physicians qualified under the Drug Addiction Treatment Act should prescribe Suboxone.
