We live in a so-called modern society where technology and evolution could not be happening at a faster rate.
I can recall having to get help from my mates to carry it when I purchased my first ever computer!These days a fully loaded computer can be placed in a carry bag and taken home.
There seems to be a heavy price we pay for this modernisation of society.
With the world recession happening at the moment, even as fast as life goes by, the demand to be continuously earning is increasingly higher by the minute.
We find ourselves having to work more than we used to and for those single parents, even more time is spent working to meet the bare essentials.
Yes, that sacrifice seems to be our children.
We spend so much time away from home trying to create that better life for them that part of the whole plan is thrown completely out the window.
The part where we act as role models and be life coaches for our children.
These young adults are at quite a vulnerable age where peer pressure, various chat rooms on the computer, social networks, mobile phones, etc, all play a large part in the influencing process.
Society in my opinion has somehow to take some responsibility for the sudden influx of teenage pregnancy.
While not all, most teenage pregnancy occurs in situations where there is no supervision present and there is ample opportunity for teens to be put in compromised situations.
That guidance which needs to be present at the most important stage in their development towards adulthood is absent for too long a period, and when they are at home, parents are way too tired to even have a conversation, much less spend any quality time with their teens.
This vicious circle is one that needs some looking into by governments as it is becoming more of a hindrance than a help to the family unit.
Kids are left far too much on their own because of parents working to provide a better life.
Their must be some form of balance between work and home so parents could at least have a fighting chance at being there for their kids.
Without looking for excuses, this will in no way entirely stop teenage pregnancy, but it will definitely cut down on the large numbers.
Everyone has to play their part and this includes governments creating that opportunity for families to spend time together, moulding kids and trying to turn them into the adults that will add to the continuous development of this already fast paced society we live in.
After all, all we want to achieve as parents is the chance to do our jobs properly so at the end of our days we can feel that great sense of satisfaction.
