- 1). Hold your trumpet as you would when playing it, but tilt the front end down toward the floor. Unscrew the top cap and lift the valve halfway out of the casing. Put about five drops of oil on the valve surface and spread the oil around by gently twisting the valve in circles and pushing it up and down. Let the valve fall back into the casing and twist it until it is secure. You will know it is secure when you hear a click and the valve no longer spins.
- 2). Pull out your main tuning slides and apply slide grease to them. Use your fingers to spread the grease around and replace the slide. Wipe away any excess slide grease and use it on the next slide.
- 3). Pull out your fine tuning slides and use the valve oil on them. Replace the fine tuning slides. Wipe off any remaining grease or oil on the trumpet.
- 4). Wipe down the entire trumpet with your silver cleaning cloth.
