- 1). Raise the hood of the vehicle to access the battery. Loosen the bolt securing the negative battery cable to the negative battery terminal with an adjustable wrench or pliers. Move the cable away from the battery until the equalizer has been installed. Move to the inside of the vehicle.
- 2). Cut a wire to a length capable of spanning the distance between the vehicle's fuse compartment and the location of the equalizer. Use a wire stripper to remove the enamel at either end of the wire.
- 3). Locate the vehicle's fuse panel and place the stripped end of the 16-gauge wire into the 12-volt power source. The location and arrangement of the fuse panel varies among vehicles. Consult your owner's manual for specifics.
- 4). Route the power cable to the location of the Pioneer equalizer.
- 5). Plug the power wire into the EQ's power input.
- 6). Strip the ends of the grounding wire. The wire should be no longer than 18 inches for proper grounding. Connect the wire to the Pioneer's ground input and to a bolt or screw near the unit. Any screw or bolt that is directly connected to the vehicle's frame will serve as an adequate grounding point.
- 7). Remove the vehicle's stereo as directed in the vehicle repair manual. Disconnect the stereo wiring from the back of the unit. Connect the stereo wiring to a wiring harness adapter and connect the leads to the appropriate outlets on the back of the stereo. Plug patch cables into the wiring harness leads and route the cables to the location of the EQ.
- 8). Replace the stereo into the stereo mounting dock of the vehicle (see repair manual for instructions).
- 9). Plug the patch cables into the signal and turn-on lead inputs on the Pioneer equalizer. Return to the battery.
- 10
Replace the negative battery cable onto the negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable to the post with the wrench or pliers.
