Starting a "Portfolio Career" - having a variety of careers - can be as difficult as finding any new career.
When we are desperately looking for a career, we find it close to impossible to secure one.
But once we have one or two careers and are exhibiting an attitude and appearance of confidence and professionalism, new career opportunities pop up continually.
We just need to be flexible and confident about trying new careers.
Questions to Ask Yourself: 1.
If employed presently, what part time tasks are now hired out to independent contractors? What would you like to do or learn to do? You could negotiate for flex-time or a new position.
2.
Is there an idea or ideas that you have for a home-based business, but have not felt would support you full time? 3.
What skills and talents do you have that others would pay for? Make a list.
There are many more than you have ever considered.
4.
What career(s) would you like to try, if you knew that you wouldn't have to do it forever or on a full-time basis? (Examples: freelance writing, substitute teaching, temporary office work, restaurant work, retail selling/ buying, painting, cleaning, baking, child care, catering, home care, gardening / landscaping, selling, computer repair / tutoring / teaching/ data-entry / desktop publishing, etc.

You may even find several part-time careers to add to your portfolio.
How to Pursue and Perform: 1.
Ask, ask, ask.
(Not only ask yourself questions, but also ask others in different careers what they like, don't like, how they got that career, etc.

Volunteer.
This is a great way to find out if you like a particular career, and also a way to "get your foot in the door.

Perform as a PROFESSIONAL in every career.
This is not only great for your attitude and demeanor, but it also establishes you as a professional with those you meet and work with and for.
You will be amazed how many think of you when a new job opportunity is available.
