Tel Aviv for Adults

Commence your day by entering the Garden of Eden at Sonya Getzel Shapira. This cafe serves great shakshukas and scrumptious homemade bread or desserts. The atmosphere, colourful, mosaic tables and food combine to ensure your breakfast is a great kick start to your day in Tel Aviv.

Walk towardsBialik Square; an exquisite spot to perch for a moment by the newly renovated fountain and city council. Enter into Bialik's house to read some of his literary works which have been translated into over thirty languages or into Reuven Rubin's former residence for his astounding paintings and photography collection. Bialik Café is at the end of the street, and during the day the writers of Tel Aviv gather to write, and read, inspired by their surroundings while at night, they host concerts of all kinds, and it is recommended to check out their schedule.

Israelis are extremely innovative and transformative with all forms of art, ranging from musicians to sculptors. Museums and galleries are sprawled throughout the city. Tel Aviv museum of Art recently exhibited the avant-garde work of David LaChappelle and the unique work of Israeli artist Yadid Rubin; most of his paintings being stunning landscapes of Israel. Evidently, even in the museums, one can find this juxtaposition of local and foreign, while their temporary exhibitions dominate, the permanent collections include works by Van Gogh, Klimt, Chagall, Picasso and Ginsborough.

The Cameri Theatre constantly stages plays with English subtitles; an inimitable experience witnessing an Israeli, musical version of Brecht's Caucasian Chalk Circle or Shakespeare's Hamlet, with swerving chairs constantly following the actors. For Israeli or foreign dance projects, explore the Suzanne Dellal centre in Neve Tzedek. This is a charming area to walk around due to its Mediterranean atmosphere. If it's too similar to the cobbled streets of Italy or Greece and you want to take yourself back to the Middle East then the Carmel market, within a two minute walking distance, is the place to buy all the spices and delicious middle Eastern pastries. Adjacent to this is the Nachlat Binyamin market which offers a range of ‘gifts from Israel' to bring back to family and friends. It takes place every morning on a Tuesday and Friday.

After an afternoon of walking, art or shopping, a pleasant resting spot is the Yemen quarter for some mouth-watering, authentic dishes. Time for an Aperitif; Juno is the spot. It is a chic Italian winery straight out of a small piazza in Rome that is ironically situated next to Milano Square with all the unruffled locals; when in Tel Aviv, be a Tel Avivian! The winery was opened by a wine collector, who is often present, discussing his extensive knowledge on wine and even mythological stories about Juno's relation to Bacchus, the God of wine. His cork collection is displayed on the wall inside; alongside the high rise tables covered in the Italian style chequered cloths. Red roses are distributed outside to match the soft red lighting above the tables. The tables are oozing with flirtation while the glasses are constantly clanging with Le Chaims (‘to life'). There is an exceptional collection of wines from numerous countries such as New Zealand, Chile, France and superb local wines. The accompanying mouth-watering dishes such as the goose foccaccia, prosciutto with figs and tomato bruschetta certainly hit the spot. The atmosphere of Juno is unique for Tel Aviv and the beautiful waitresses, with their expertise on wine, assist to make your Juno experience a marvellous, merry and memorable one.

Dinner can be reserved in the fancy and entirely white restaurant, Messa, transporting you to London or New York, contained with white drapes and white tables and an adjacent room with an all black bar. The delectable food and unique cocktails make this a memorable experience.

Spend the night in one of the Varsano luxury suites in Neve Tzedek and you will probably never want to leave your room once you have entered, but it's ok, because you will have enough memories from your day in Tel Aviv to reflect on.
