- 1). Completely remove the old string. If the string has snapped, carefully remove the ball end by lifting the peg and pulling it out of its slot, then remove the top end by unwinding the tuner and pulling the string through the whole in the tuner. If this end is stuck, grip it with a pair of pliers and remove it carefully. Wind the string around itself so that there is a minimum exposed, then wrap it in a paper bag and dispose of it.
- 2). Remove the new string from its packaging. Place the ball end back in its slot and then replace the peg. Draw the string over the bridge towards the tuner.
- 3). Run the new string through the tuner. Slowly wind the tuner to bring the string into tune.
- 4). Use a guitar tuner to tune the new string. Remember that new strings will frequently go back out of tune until they have become stretched into place.
