- 1). Raise the Neon's hood and remove the negative battery cable clamp from the negative battery terminal. Loosen the bolt on the clamp with the wrench. Set the cable aside until the stereo is installed. Move to the inside of the vehicle.
- 2). Grab the center dash panel, around the stereo and climate controls, and pull it away from the dashboard by hand. Set the panel aside.
- 3). Remove the two bolts on the sides of the stereo assembly with the 10 mm socket and ratchet. Pull the stereo from the dashboard stereo dock.
- 4). Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the back of the stock stereo. Unplug the antenna cable lead from the back of the unit.
- 5). Plug the stereo wiring into the wiring harness adapter leads.
- 6). Slide the faceplate adapter into the Neon's stereo dock. Feed the stereo wiring (connected to the wiring harness adapter) and the antenna cable through the back of the faceplate adapter to the front of the Neon's dashboard.
- 7). Plug the wiring harness adapter lead connectors into the outlets on the rear panel of the new stereo. Insert the antenna cable lead into the FM antenna outlet on the back of the new stereo deck. Slide the unit into the opening in the dashboard dock provided by the faceplate adapter. Push the aftermarket stereo into the dash until it snaps into place.
- 8). Place the dash panel over the stereo assembly and climate controls. Press firmly around the edges of the panel to snap it back onto the dashboard. Return to the battery.
- 9). Place the negative battery cable clamp back around the Neon's negative battery terminal. Tighten the cable's bolt with the wrench to secure the cable onto the terminal post. Close the hood.
