- 1). Explore the Publisher software in your classroom as part of this assignment. Ask students which color scheme and fonts they like best. They need to bring this information with them to the next editorial meeting.
- 2). Hold an editorial meeting with your students. Discuss story ideas, photos to appear in the newspaper and design elements. Write everything from this brainstorming session down. Set deadlines so the students know how long they have until they must turn their stories and photos into you. Make final your decisions about the template and colors based on what the students liked in Publisher.
- 3). Create a file folder on the classroom computer for each issues of the newspaper you intend to produce.
- 4). Take the necessary photos for the newspaper and upload them into your work file folder for this issue of the paper. Use the accessories that came with your camera.
- 5). Type up the students' stories in a word processing program. Assign student editors to check them for errors and to correct them.
- 6). Have a dummy paper set up in the classroom so students can pencil in stories as they turn them in. This will help you with the layout later. This dummy acts as a rough design sketch of your upcoming edition.
- 7). Open Publisher when you're ready to design the paper.
- 8). Go to the menu on the left-hand side of the page and look for the "Newsletter" template. Although newspapers tend to run much larger, this size will be easier to manage and less costly for your classroom to produce.
- 9). Choose the template the students liked best and click on it. Be mindful that you may change your color schemes so if the students like one design scheme, but another color scheme. Make the necessary adjustments as you set up your pages.

Change the text in the program from the one that came with the template to the new content the students have created.
