I grew up with a love of photography.
Since I was about 15 years old and was handed my first 'real' camera, a Kodak Instamatic, I've been totally hooked on this hobby of mine.
I've spent many a happy day (and night) trudging around the streets in search of that one elusive shot that anyone who's ever taken photo's, knows exists, but just can't quite get manage to get it.
After serving my self imposed apprenticeship, I moved on to trying to sell my photo's and am proud to say I managed to do just that on a few occasions.
There's no other feeling quite like receiving a cheque for just taking a photograph and the thrill of seeing it published...
well, that's another feeling altogether.
Back when I started, thing were quite difficult in terms of selling and publishing.
I spent hours developing the negatives, hours printing them off and God knows how many hours marking them up, addressing them and sending them off to various agencies in the hope that someone would try to sell my photo's for me.
Sometimes they did.
Mostly they didn't.
But then the digital age came along and things got very different.
Very different indeed.
Now if I want to sell my photo's I simply upload them to various online agencies.
A potential customer comes along and browses the agencies website.
If they see my photo and like it, they pay to download it.
I get paid a commission.
And that commission can be as high as $60 per shot.
Even better is the fact that my photograph remains on the site for download by different customers again and again.
Who hasn't imagined themselves as a photographer at some point or another? Well, the truth is, now anyone can.
And you DON'T have to be a brilliant photographer with all the latest expensive equipment hanging off of your neck.
A digital camera of 3 mp and above is good enough and even your cellphone can be used! If you want to see some examples of the kind of money that can be made by anyone with the ability to point and shoot and from the kind of photographs you would normally bin, take a look at my website in the resource box below.
