Lake Tahoe, Nevada, is a vacationer's paradise. This small lake features crystal-clear waters surrounded by woodlands, shrubs and other plants. Activities vary depending on the time of year. You can go fishing, hiking or swimming during the late spring or summer. It can get quite cold in the winter months, but there is plenty to do when temperatures drop.

Zephyr Cove Resort & Lake Tahoe Cruises

The Zephyr Cove Resort offers plenty of entertainment for nature-loving families. Cruise the lake on the Tahoe Queen or the famous M.S. Dixie II. The Tahoe Queen recalls the early 1900s because it features an old-fashioned Mississippi-style paddle wheel in front. The cruise tours vary, but most go across Zephyr Cove and into Emerald Bay. Nighttime dinner cruises are available for couples.

You can also go swimming or fishing in the lake when the weather permits, or enjoy the scenery on one of the area's many hiking trails. Other activities include snowmobiling, horseback riding and shopping. The Zephyr Cove Resort offers rooms with cabin-style accommodations and decor, and the Zephyr Cove restaurant, bar and grill is in walking distance of the resort.

The Diamond Peak Ski Resort features slopes and terrain for the seasoned and new skier or snowboarder. The Diamond Peak Terrain Park has boxes, rails and wall rides for experienced snowboarders, bunny slopes for newcomers and steep slopes for those who want more of a thrill as they ski down the mountain. Lessons are available for all age groups.

The Horizon Casino Resort offers entertainment for children and adults. Enjoy drinks and live music at the Aspen Lounge while your kids have fun at Arcade World. The Horizon Stadium Cinemas features new-release movies, with screenings held throughout the day. Adults can go gambling, or the family can dine at the Town Square buffet. The hotel is in walking distance of the beach, golfing and hiking. Various suites celebrate the past: The Elvis suite features pictures and memorabilia of the King along with a pool table, a bar and '50s-inspired decor.
