Have you been using your water truck for some while and want to add something extra to it? As a commercial truck driver you should always strive to achieve a better performance with every ride. Being contended with what the truck offers is not ideal for any commercial driver but as it is said that there is no such thing as free lunch. When you are looking to add something special to your stainless water tanker, you have to add things that really boost your performance.
Installing Throttle Cable Zip Tie
If you are seeking a better throttle response from the truck than this is a great addition. It costs least amount and can be installed within no time at all (hardly 10 minutes). To hold the throttle cable most people use zip ties, but you can use hose clamps or plastic tubing too. So, the first consideration is to select a thing to hold the throttle cable in place. You could use cheap electrical connectors and spread it around the cable. Now find a comfortable position to lie on the floor. Once found, pull on the pedal which shows the slack. Pull the cable to bring down all the slack. You can even place a block to hold the pedal up. This would help you assess the area with both hands. Now start off with the addition. As you can use both hands, pull down the cable end with the help of pliers. In the other hand you can crimp the connectors. Put some liquid tape, to hold these in place. This small little addition can give your stainless water tanker the throttle required. It would be ready to go, always.
Tinkering with Air Intake Silencer
With this modification you can increase the air flow into the throttle body. This will lead to a cool sound. First of all you have to disconnect the battery cables, which in turn will reset the computer and allow you adjust the airflow). You will need an 8mm wrench to perform the task. Remove three 10mm bolts that are pressed against the throttle body cover. Loosen the clamps while holding the silencer assembly to throttle body. Now, remove the silencer assembly held within the throttle body and the vacuum lines from the assembly. You should loosen the clamps that are held against the silencer assembly to air filter box. This will enable you to remove the silencer assembly. Once removed, rotate the assembly to expose the intake air temperature, you should also unplug the sensor. Remove the entire silencer assembly from the engine compartment.
Once you have done that, you can then remove the AB flex connector from this assembly. This should be done very carefully and using a long, thin screwdriver. Separate the silencer assembly and flex connector. Use a cutting wheel to make a small cut inside the silencer assembly at larger end. Do not cut deep as they may lead to cut in the outer housing. The second cut should enable the silencer to be easily removed. Remove the silencer very carefully. Twist it slightly to break the bond between the small end and the silencer. When done right, the silencer will slip out. Use a sanding barrel and a cutting tool to cut through the modified silencer assembly. Blow out all the small cutting that may enter the combustion chamber. Lastly, apply a black weather strip to both the modified assembly and flex connector.
These two DIY modifications are easy to carry out and they make your driving experience much better.
