A lot of people get divorced.
Your parents might not be divorced, your friends parents might not be divorced.
But don't worry, there's a group of disgruntled people getting divorced this very second, and they're growing by the hour.
The question is, why? I talked to a resident of mine the other day and he attributed it to American ADD.
TV thrives on short attention spans, the Internet is a short attention span.
People don't think long term and so, they jump into marriage without truly knowing the person they're marrying.
Months go by, they lose interest, they move on.
People expect marriage to change things, to fix them, or to carry a sort of mystical happiness.
But when this is wrong, they leave it by the wayside.
However, I thought it might be interesting to try and look at it in a different light.
Maybe divorce is just part of the grand American dream.
People come here to move up in the world, to get ahead, to make it.
With this notion, when people are married, and it hits a snag, they try and find something better.
The American dream is about making your situation better and so, it only makes sense to cut out the dead weight that is holding you down.
Maybe people believe they can do better alone, or with someone else, and so they try and continue their rise to the top elsewhere.
In this manner, it's right for divorce rates to go up.
People are striving to find the best situation for themselves, and so when marriage goes sour, it's no longer the optimal place.
People then move on, continuing to find the American dream.
