- 1). Grab the sides of the hinge top cover with your fingers. Pull the top cover open and push it toward the Toto toilet tank. The top cover is part of the toilet seat hinge and does not remove completely.
- 2). Turn the toilet seat bolt counterclockwise with a large flat-head screwdriver. If the bolt is too tight to turn, insert the screwdriver into the slot on the opposite end of the bolt under the toilet flange. Depending upon the model Toto you own, the end of the bolt might be slightly hidden in a recessed hole. Remember to turn clockwise when loosening the bolt from the bottom.
- 3). Remove the toilet seat bolt with the screwdriver from the top of the seat, once the bolt is loose enough to turn. Remove the opposite bolt in the same manner.
- 4). Lift the seat off the toilet bolt. Slip the screwdriver under the rubber bushing and twist the handle to pry the bushing up slightly.
- 5). Grab the bushing with a pair of pliers. Twist and pull the bushing with the pliers until it is out of the Toto toilet. Repeat for the opposite bushing.
