- 1). Select fruits and vegetables that are appropriate for your babies age. Some foods are easier to digest for younger babies. Generally, apples, bananas, pears, sweet potatoes and squash are good first foods (along with baby cereal). Fresh or frozen produce works well for making baby food.
- 2). Prepare the food by washing any fresh produce or defrosting frozen food in the refrigerator.
- 3). If necessary, peel or remove any skins that may be on the produce. Chop the produce into squares that are approximately 1 inch in size.
- 4). Next, you will need to cook the food. You can steam it on the stove or in the microwave. If using the microwave, make sure to use a microwave safe dish, place a few tablespoons on water on the bottom and add one or two layers of cubes and cover. Depending on the amount, about 5 minutes in the microwave is enough to cook the food.
- 5). Baby food can easily be stored in the freezer. The easiest way to store the food is in ice cube trays. That way, you can just take one or two cubes as needed without wasting the food.
- 6). The frozen cubes can be defrosted in the fridge or in the microwave. If you use the microwave, make sure to stir it well and wait for it to cool down. Usually about 30 - 45 seconds is enough to soften the food enough.
