- 1). Place the measuring tape on the outside portion of one side of the window or screen frame. Put the top of the tape at one of the corners of the frame.
- 2). Measure either up or down, depending on where you placed the tape, to measure the height of the window. Keep the tape on the outside of the frame and roll the tape all the way down to the opposite corner of the frame. Measure twice to obtain an accurate number. The Quality Window Screen website recommends measuring to the nearest 1/16 inch.
- 3). Place the measuring tape in the same place you did in Step 1.
- 4). Stretch the tape out sideways, either left or right, to measure the width. Keep the tape on the outside of the frame just as you did when measuring its height. Measure twice, rounding to the nearest 1/16 inch.
- 5). Measure the height from the bottom of the frame to the frame's crossbar, if one exists. Place the top of the tape on the side of the frame and at the top part of the crossbar. Stretch the tape down to a bottom corner of the frame, keeping the tape on the outside of the frame while doing so. Measure twice and round to the nearest 1/16 inch.
