How to Seal Window Sashes

    Silicone Caulking

    • 1). Clean the window panes to be sure they are free of dust for proper adhesion of the silicone caulking.

    • 2). Insert the tube of silicone caulk into the caulking gun and snip off the tip of the tube.

    • 3). Apply a thin bead of caulk around each window pane where the glass and the wood framing meet.

    • 4). Let the silicone caulk dry and harden.

    Weatherstripping

    • 1). Measure the window pane to be sealed and cut a piece of weatherstripping from the roll to the length of your measurement.

    • 2). Remove the paper backing and apply the weatherstripping to the edges where the glass and wooden window frame meet.

    • 3). Use your finger to press the weatherstripping firmly into place.

    • 4). Continue measuring, cutting and applying the weatherstripping around the edges of each pane of glass to seal out drafts.
