- 1). Female guests should wear a formal dress that is below the knee. Traditionally, women wear long gowns, although in some locales a shorter dress or pantsuit is acceptable.
- 2). Civilian male guests should wear a tuxedo. Although in less cosmopolitan areas you might be able to get away with a formal suit, this is a very formal event and you should dress the part with a formal tuxedo.
- 3). This is a time to be classy, not trendy or sexy. Pick an outfit that makes you look great, but is also appropriately conservative and professional. Your date's bosses and colleagues will be there-- this is not the time to make a name for yourself in a bad way. As a general rule, if you wouldn't be comfortable in the dress in front of your boss and your mother-in-law, it is not appropriate for the event.
- 4). Many girlfriends and wives will get their hair done, but it is completely acceptable to do your own hair and look great. Just remember to stay classy and look great.
- 5). When in doubt, ask someone who has been to the event for their advice. A lot of military wives and girlfriends have been to these events before and can give you great advice on what types of outfits are appropriate.
