- 1). Match the width of the joint you intend to caulk to the corresponding embossed marking on the tip of the tube of silicone caulk. The embossed markings represent visual identification as to the size of bead that will be dispensed. Sever the tip using a utility knife, cutting it at a 45-degree angle, being sure to begin at the intended embossed marking. Insert the tube into a caulking gun.
- 2). Squeeze the trigger of the caulking gun until caulk begins to flow from the tube. Wipe the end of the tube with a wet rag, removing any excess caulk.
- 3). Hold the caulking gun at a 45-degree angle. Press the tip of the tube to the joint. Squeeze the trigger. Pull the caulking gun along the joint once caulk starts to flow. Release the caulking gun trigger gently as you approach the end of the joint.
- 4). Wet your finger. Run your finger over the bead of caulk, smoothing it and forcing it into the joint. Use a wet rag to wipe your finger clean before each swipe.
- 5). Follow the manufacturer's instructions to allow for proper drying time.
