Anti-aging: A Scientific Outlook

What is aging?

Aging is inevitable. Approximately, 100,000 people die each day of aging related causes worldwide. In 1970, the typical life span at birth in america was 70.8 years; in 2008, it was 78.0 years which means life expectancy increase by more than 10%.

Aging is not treatable since it is a natural process, not a medical condition. Nevertheless, this process can be slowed up. Just like there are factors that increase the signs of age on the body inside out, there are other factors that can reduce the onset of wrinkles and other problems that come with aging.

Aging is the results of different causes like: wear and tear in the tissue, immunity process decline, genetic damage and stress from free radicals. Knowing the causes help a lot with the providing the right treatment that slows down the aging process which makes you live healthier and look younger. It is on these grounds that the science of anti-aging is built, and great advances have been made in this field in the past 30 years

What is anti-aging?

Governing the factors that affect the aging, longevity of the cells is the first step in developing anti-aging medicine. Making sure to include food with anti-aging properties in the diet, and regular exercises both improve the life expectancy of the cells dramatically. Hundreds of researches are being done to provide more understanding for the methods and substances used in the anti-aging medicine.

Substances used in anti-aging medicine:

Antioxidants:

Antioxidants are considered one of the most famous substances used in anti-aging. They protect cells from the harmful substances known as free radicals. Free radicals are produced from different chemical reactions inside our body and they accumulate causing destruction of the cells. The use of antioxidants in anti-aging is very easy, and thats why they are an efficient defense against the aging process. All the patient needs is to add antioxidant rich foods to the diet, or use a supplement.

Hormone replacement therapy:

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is one of the very effective methods used in the anti-aging industry. HRT employs several hormones to delay the aging proccess. Some of these hormones are: Growth hormone, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and dehydroepiandrosterone. These hormones act to maintain bone strength, enhance memory, and improve cardiovascular health. Recent studies suggest that these hormones can also be used to protect the body from age related diseases like dementia and Alzheimer.

Exercise and anti-aging:

Exercise delays the appearance of age related diseases like hypertension, diabetes and coronary heart disease. Working out helps the body remove harmful nitrogenous products through sweat, and it help rid the body of the free radicals that are responsible for the destruction of the cells. Exercise also has a great role in regulating the body energy.

Anti-aging supplements

Some supplements can be used to hinder the onset of age signs. They can act alone or in combination with hormone therapy. Both forms of treatment should always be used under a doctors supervision. Discuss your goals and your options with your physician.
