The Bottom Line
Hilary Swank doesn't usually take on comedies and it's highly unusual for the two-time Oscar winner to play the lead in a romantic comedy, but that's what she does in P.S. I Love You directed by Richard LaGravenese. Joined by some attractive eye candy - Gerard Butler, Harry Connick Jr, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Swank tries her hand at lighter fare and, for the most part, she succeeds.
Pros
- Hilary Swank shows a softer side in this romantic comedy
- An appealing cast holds the love story together
Cons
- Not much in the way of bonus features

The Story
Like most married couples, Holly (Swank) and Gerry (Butler) have their fair share of arguments, but there's no doubt the two are deeply in love. So when Gerry is prematurely taken out of the picture, Holly doesn't know how she'll be able to carry on without him. But Gerry didn't pass on without carefully creating a way to push Holly into getting on with her life.
Gerry left behind a series of letters with instructions on how he wants her to get past her grief. Dance, sing, take a vacation - all of Gerry's suggestions require Holly to get out of her house and reconnect with the world.
As she follows his instructions, Holly finds herself not only moving on but also opening up her heart to the possibility that there may just be another person out there who's worth sharing time with.
The Bonus Features
The P.S. I Love You DVD is low on extra material, and what's there is below par for a major studio release. You won't find a commentary track, Making Of footage, or other normal bonus material on this DVD. Instead, you'll get a James Blunt music video, "A Conversation with Cecelia Ahern" (the author of the book the movie's based on ), a couple of deleted scenes, and a truly bizarre "The Name of the Game is Snaps" featurette. All in all, a very skimpy collection of extras.
