Rashes On Skin - What To Do About It

Those rashes on your skin did not just appear randomly because they felt like it. There is a reason why those rashes are there. Something you ate or something your skin touched must have caused them to appear. It can be troublesome if you don't know what caused those rashes on your skin. And if you don't want those rashes to reappear or at least be able to limit their appearance, you need to be able to trace the reasons why you have them.

The most likely reason you have those skin rashes is that you inherited them from your family. You can't possibly inherit skin rashes but you can inherit a skin condition that causes them. This skin condition is known as eczema and it can be passed down the genetically from parents to children and from children to grand children. Simply defined, eczema involves the irritation of the skin's outermost layer called the epidermis. If you get eczema from your parents, then you can also expect to develop itchy rashes on skin with exposure to an irritant.

Now that we have identified a link between genetics and the rashes on your skin, it is about time that we identify the irritants that trigger them. There are actually a multitude of possible skin irritants that can lead to skin rashes. It can be the food that we consume, something we intentionally applied to our skin, or something that accidentally came touched our skin.

Food is a common factor that triggers eczema rashes. Not all types of food cause the symptoms of eczema to show, however. Instead, there are only certain kinds of food that are known to trigger eczema symptoms. Also, food allergies differ from one person to another. So while you are only allergic to shrimp, other people may be allergic to both shrimp and crabs.

Most people with allergies usually react to seafood such as shellfish, crabs, and shrimps. Nuts are also frequent food allergies among people with eczema. Other foods that are known to lead to the appearance of rashes on the skin are soy, wheat, eggs, food that contains gluten and monosodium glutamate, corn, maize, certain fruits, milk, oats, pork, and alcoholic beverages. Chicken and other poultry products are also linked to the aggravation of eczema rashes when eaten along with food that one is allergic to. That's why when you develop rashes on your skin, you will be told by your doctor to avoid eating chicken and poultry products.

Direct contact to the skin of certain substances is also an established causative factor of skin rashes. These substances could be man-made or they can come from the environment. Examples of environmental skin irritants are the pollen from ragweed, grass, and trees; animal products like hair, fur, saliva, and waste products; insect stings from bees, wasps, mosquitoes, and dust mites; as well as mold, water, and weather. Man-made products like clothing, skin creams, detergents, fabric softeners, bed stuffing, and skin lotion have also been known to cause rashes on skin to appear. Unlike with food allergies wherein rashes appear within minutes to hours after ingestion, direct contact with any of the aforementioned products can cause eczema rashes to appear right away.

It is also possible that the eczema rashes on your skin are caused by medication. Medications like tetracycline, codeine, Dilantin, Tegretol, penicillin, cephalosporins, sulfonamides, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, intravenous contrast dyes, and local anesthetics can cause widespread appearance of rashes all over the body. Although allergic reactions to drugs are uncommon, they are possible for some people.

Now that you know the possible reasons for the appearance of the rashes on your skin, you can therefore make a move to prevent the recurrence of the same rashes. Only by knowing the cause of your eczema will you be able to avoid it.
