O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is the latest album produced by the popular Brazilian singer Marisa Monte. This work, which was released in Brazil in October of 2011, reached the top of the charts in that country soon after its release. The album made its US debut on March 2012. The following is an overview of the concept and music behind O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade.
The Making of The Album
Although O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is a collection of songs that Marisa Monte wrote during the last four years, she was only able to consolidate this album in a moment of silence when she was away from the hectic schedule that an artist like her usually has.
Marisa Monte produced some of the songs while she was recording the album. Other tracks included in this work were previously recorded by other artists like her old friends from Tribalistas Arnaldo Antunes ("O Que Você Quer Saber De Verdade") and Carlinhos Brown ("Verdade, Uma Ilusão").
In fact, the title of this album bears the name of the song recorded by Arnaldo Antunes. Marisa Monte chose that title because it expresses the silence that is needed in order to listen to the voice of your soul. Overall, O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is an album defined by the always inspiring topic of love.
An important ingredient in the making of this CD was the musical collaboration that Marisa Monte forged with Rodrigo Amarante for the past years. You can hear Rodrigo Amarante in the single "O Que Se Quer," one of the best songs in the entire album.
A Relaxing Sound
Perhaps because of the way it was conceived, O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade offers a very relaxing sound, which is provided by delicate musical arrangements and the always gorgeous voice of Marisa Monte.
Considering this, the best songs on this album are those who fit this 'moment of silence' that the Brazilian singer wanted to incorporate into this production. Some of these tracks include titles like "O Que Você Quer Saber De Verdade," "Depois," "Nada Tudo" and "Ainda Bem".
This is also why more uplifting tracks like "Hoje Eu Não Saio Não" and "Seja Feliz" do not really fit the whole idea behind this album. Even though these songs add a little variety to the sounds of O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade, I think they represent the weakest side on this album.
"O Que Se Quer"
Although O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is better defined by its soft melodies, there is one exception to that rule: "O Que Se Quer". This is my favorite song in the entire album. Featuring Rodrigo Amarante, this song offers a nice beat and a melody adorned with accordion that almost sound like a Sertaneja track. A Fantastic track from beginning to end.
'O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade' - Bottom Line
Overall, O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is a very relaxing and pleasant album to listen to. Although this is not the best work produced by Marisa Monte, the album is definitely a nice production that maintains the quality and independent spirit of this Brazilian singer.
In a world full of mainstream music, Marisa Monte has always delivered good albums that satisfy the taste of people who want to get away from commercial stuff. O Que Voce Quer Saber De Verdade is not exception to that rule. It is nice to have Marisa Monte back with new music.
