How to Connect a Jensen In-Dash DVD Stereo on a 2001 Mustang

    • 1). Open the hood by pulling the hood release lever under the steering wheel. Secure the hood in the upright position. Disconnect the ground (black) battery cable by loosening the bolt that holds it in place with an adjustable wrench and moving it aside.

    • 2). Set the parking brake and move the shifter to neutral. Remove the shifter bezel by pulling it toward you while pressing on the release pins. The location of these pins is indicated in the owner's manual. Disconnect the cigarette lighter by depressing the tab on the back of the connection with a small flathead screwdriver.

    • 3). Remove the center bezel by pulling it toward you while pressing on the release pins. Disconnect all electronics located in the center bezel, such as the defrost and the cigarette lighter controls, by pressing on the release tabs on the back of the connections.

    • 4). Unscrew the two bolts that hold the stock CD player in place with an adjustable wrench. Set these aside for later use. Remove the now-disconnected CD player from the dashboard. Disconnect the wires on the back of the CD player.

    • 5). Slide the Jensen DVD player into the mounting kit. It should fit with minimal effort.

    • 6). Connect the factory wires that were connected to the stock CD player to the wiring harness for the Jensen DVD player. Do so by stripping 1/4 inch of the wire shielding with wire strippers, twisting the wires together, soldering them together with a soldering gun, then wrapping the sections of exposed wires with electricians tape. Consult the wiring guide that comes with the wiring harness to ensure that you connect the right wires together, although the color coding is typically accurate.

    • 7). Insert the Jensen DVD player, securely in its mounting bracket, in the hole where the stock CD player was located. Secure it in place using the two bolts you removed in Step 4.

    • 8). Replace all of the dashboard components by sliding them back into place. Reconnect all electrical items that were previously disconnected. Move the shifter back into park and disengage the parking brake. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
