Several scholarships are available. The Ruth M. French Undergraduate Scholarship is available in the amount of $3,000. The Dorothy Morrison Undergraduate Scholarship is valued at $2,000. Several Alpha Mu Tau Undergraduate Scholarships are awarded annually in the amount of $1,500. ASCLS scholarships are administered by Alpha Mu Tau Fraternity. The annual deadline for application is April 1.
- The organization Nationwide Children's Hospital offers tuition assistance to future medical lab technicians through its Medical Laboratory Cooperative Scholarship. This scholarship is available to students pursuing both associate and bachelor's degrees; students pursuing graduate degrees are ineligible. Preferential consideration may be given to applicants who belong to an underrepresented minority group. Recipients will be required to accept a position at a Nationwide Children's Hospital facility after graduating, or must repay the scholarship. Applications for this scholarship are accepted throughout the year.
- The Association of Schools of Allied Health Professions offers tuition assistance to medical lab tech students through the Scholarship of Excellence Award. This scholarship is valued at $1,000. Students at all levels of study are eligible to apply. Applicants must have completed at least one term of their program prior to applying. Financial need is not taken into consideration.
- The organization American Medical Technologists offers annual $500 scholarships to students pursuing careers as medical lab technicians. These scholarships may only be used to defray the cost of tuition. The annual application deadline is March 1. In addition, AMT also offers a $250 Outstanding Student Award each year. Students cannot apply for this award; they must be nominated by an instructor.
- Some associations organized at the state level provide scholarships to future medical lab techs. For example, the Wisconsin branch of the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Sciences offers several scholarships valued at between $500 and $1,000. Another such organization is the Maine Clinical Laboratory Management Association, which offers scholarships of $1,000 to high school students who plan to pursue training as medical lab technicians.
- Many schools that offer training to future medical lab technicians also offer scholarships to attending students. For example, Alexandria Technical College in Minnesota offers several medical lab tech scholarships. The Dr. Gerard Obert Memorial Scholarship is valued at $250 and awarded to a second-year student with a GPA of 3.0 or better. The Shari Parkhurst Scholarship is valued at $1,000 and awarded to a second-year student with a farm background. Be sure to explore all funding sources offered by your school.
