Rochard is about a space minor named John Rochard and his gravity bending exploits in outer space.
It's a 2D platformer that has a really fleshed out presentation with a nice sci-fi atmosphere.
The gameplay is a combination of exploration, puzzle solving and shooting.
If you played Shadow Complex its similar in some ways.
Rochard was developed by Recoil Games and published by Sony Online Entertainment.
I just learned that it is a PSN exclusive for the PlayStation 3.
It released yesterday September 27,2011.
The start of Rochard shows the anti hero returning to Skyrig mining facility where he works.
It's on a asteroid btw.
I must say the music is really good early into the demo.
It had an epic sci-fi tune like something you would hear in Star Wars.
In the cutscene Rochard talks about the impending adventure while a guitar solo is playing in the background.
Rochard if nothing else has its own style and atmosphere which I like.
Reminds me of the anime Cowboy Bebop for some reason.
Force Fields are in game barriers and range in different colors which adds a layer to Rochard's gameplay.
Blue Force Fields block non lifeforms and objects like robots and boxes.
Red Force Fields block bio life forms like humans.
Through using the zero-g ability by pressing L1 and using the G-Lifter tool you can solve puzzles and manipulate your way around the force fields.
I enjoyed the puzzles.
They weren't too difficult but required thinking.
As far as enemies go about three quarters into the demo Skyrig gets attacks by a group of mercs who called themselves the Bad Boys.
Using the zero-g option and G-Lifter I was able to throw objects at them killing them.
To be honest they were too easy to kill (on normal difficulty).
You can just rush them with Rochard and melee them once and they are dead.
There are also malfunctioning robots, malfunctioning turrets and gravity itself.
Near the end you do actually acquire a weapon I can't remember what Rochard called it, Rock Cutter or Rock Blaster? Anyways, it was gun that worked nicely.
It could open malfunctioning doors besides kill enemies.
There are collectibles in the form of "Trophy Collectibles".
I managed to collect maybe six of them in the demo.
It requires some exploration to find some but most of them are in sight but hard to reach.
You can upgrade the G-Lifter tool which probably means you can upgrade all weapons and tools in Rochard.
The demo was really good, better than I thought it would be.
It also isn't a short demo.
It lasts over half an hour with a good diversity of gameplay and story progression.
If you have a PlayStation 3 I suggest you try Rochard on PSN.
Or at least the demo.
Thanks for reading.
