Research epidemiologists conduct studies regarding infectious diseases and other public health issues. They typically work for universities or non-profit research centers.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, epidemiologists earned an average of $65,270 in 2012. The top 10% of epidemiologists earned at least $108,320, while the bottom 10% earned $42,620 or less.
