- 1). Lay a painter's dropcloth beneath the stained area and open a door or window for ventilation.
- 2). Wipe over the marked area with a wet paper towel to clean away any dust.
- 3). Shake the stain-blocking primer can until the mixing ball rattles free inside. Follow the instructions for specifics on how long to shake the can. It's usually a few minutes.
- 4). Hold the can about a half-inch away from the wall and press the nozzle. Spray the area until the marker is covered. Avoid spraying too much in one spot or the paint might start running down the wall. It is better to spray several thin coats than to spray one thick, heavy coat. Wait 24 hours or whatever the directions on the can recommend for the primer to dry before painting.
- 5). Pour some finish paint into a paint tray. Dip a mini roller into the paint and then roll back and forth over the tray to allow the paint to soak into its fibers. Roll the paint over the primed area until all the primer has been covered. Don't overload the roller or you'll have too much paint on the wall. Feather the paint out so only a thin layer is applied. It's okay if you can see the primer underneath. Apply as many thin coats as necessary to cover the repair and blend it with the rest of the wall. Always wait between coats for each to properly dry. This is usually up to 24 hours.
