It's time for another edition of Buzzfeed!, breaking down UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann," which takes place TONIGHT (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) from Las Vegas, Nevada.
Here is everything you need to know about the mixed martial arts (MMA) event that takes place later this evening in "Sin City." Without further ado, let's get to the good stuff below.
Who: Ronda Rousey vs. Sara McMann
What: UFC 170
When: Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014
Where: Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada
Why It Matters: The second PPV of the year pits two former Olympians in the main event, including the fastest turnaround for a champion in UFC history. Fresh off of her destruction of Miesha Tate at UFC 168 just two months ago, superstar Ronda Rousey is at it again against Sara McMann in her third women's Bantamweight title defense.
What's Hot: The main event is more or less the best part about this fight card, as well as the "Prelims" main event that features Alexis Davis and Jessica Eye. The card revolves around the division, and it's very possible that the winners of those two fights will eventually meet inside the Octagon in the near future.
What's Not: UFC has had a lot of bad press lately. It's not overshadowing the fight card as a whole like it did to UFC Fight Night 36 last week; however, sponsorship issues, fighters jumping ship to Bellator and fighters from the past voicing their disapproval with salaries means the promotion needs to buckle up and get ready to take these issues head on.
Also, the co-main event sees a Light Heavyweight contender against a coffee shop barista. And although that angle has become tiresome, it's the God-awful truth and we can't shy away from it.
At least Daniel Cormier gave Patrick Cummins a good shove at the pre-fight press conference to increase our interest.
New Blood: There are six fresh faces on this card and half of them are coming into their fights undefeated.
The most notable Octagon debutant is obviously Cummins, who enters his co-main event fight against Cormier with a perfect (4-0) record. He has not fought in almost a year despite four victories by way of a finish.
The event also takes place in Las Vegas, so we'll see our fair share of fighters, celebrities and a tweaked-out Chuck Liddell on the camera if we're lucky.
Looking at Ronda Rousey's stats, she is 8-0 overall and 2-0 in UFC. Undoubtedly her patented armbar will be something McMann needs to avoid, however, rumors have suggested that she has been significantly improving her striking and dropping professional boxers with body shots in training. Whether those rumors are just to put some fear in her opponent tonight, or whether she really has improved her striking that drastically remains to be seen, but if true McMann will certainly have to find a way to combat that strength.
Even though Rousey will be looking to try and get McMann in a clinch, her opponent today could be the best equipped to deal with her throws and sweeps. McMann is an expert wrestler, and should have the armory to make Rousey's job that much more difficult tonight.
Ronda Rousey, her next dance in the cage is set for Saturday at the Mandalay Bay Casino in Las Vegas. Her opponent is fourth-ranked women's bantamweight Sara McMann. Check out all the info you need regarding UFC 170: "Rousey vs. McMann," which takes place tonight (Sat., Feb. 22, 2014) at Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.
