- 1). Prepare the surface to receive tile by making sure it is free of dust and debris.
- 2). Measure the counter and mark the center line from front to back with the pencil and straight edge. Lay the tiles out in a dry-fit or dry layout in the same sized space to determine where cuts will go. Lay the first tiles in the front center of the counter, moving equally out to each side and back. Mark the tiles to be cut for the sink and edges with the pencil and straight edge.
- 3). Cut the tiles that have been marked with the tile saw and return them to the dry layout to double-check measurements before tiling.
- 4). Install the edge tiles to the front and sides of the vanity first. Apply a small amount of thin-set to the back of each tile and press the tiles into place. Twist them slightly and then straighten to ensure a tight bond. Leave room for grout joints between the tiles.
- 5). Lay the countertop tiles in the same layout pre-determined by the dry layout by spreading the thin-set with the trowel over the top and then using the grooved edge of the trowel to comb the thin-set so that the ridges are even in height. Press each tile into the thin-set one at a time, twisting it into place, and checking that each tile is straight. Allow the thin-set to cure for 24 hours.
- 6). Apply grout to the counter. Pack the grout between the joints with a grout float. Once the grout has cured, the sink and faucet can be installed.
