- 1). Be at least 18 years.
- 2). Obtain a High School diploma or equivalency.
- 3). Become employed at a plumbing company, pipe fitter's union or any other professional establishment hiring apprentice plumbers.
- 4). Register with your State Board of Plumbing to obtain an Apprentice License, if required by your state. The law will vary among states, so it may not be required for you to obtain this license. Apprentice plumbers are still in training, studying under a Journeyman or Master plumber.
- 5). Complete the application form in order to obtain the license. The application will ask for general employment and personal information.
- 6). Pay the application fee and submit it with the application paperwork. The fee will also vary from state to state, generally in the range of $35 to $50.
- 7). Register with your state Training Council of the Department of Labor, if such an office exists and your state requires you to do so.
- 8). Enroll in an apprenticeship program approved by the state department of licensing. Your employment will likely serve to suit this purpose.
- 1). Complete all the steps required to become an apprentice plumber.
- 2). Successfully pass a background check which will ensure that you have no felony convictions. The background check may not be required by all states and/or all employers.
- 3). Fill out an application form to obtain a journeyman plumber's license.
- 4). Pay the required application fees. The fee varies, but generally falls in the range of $50 to $100.
- 5). Present proof that you have worked the required number of years/hours necessary to receive a Journeyman license, generally 2 to 4 years' worth of work experience. Some states require that you complete this training via a special program rather than relevant job experience.
- 6). Pass the state journeyman licensing exam in order to obtain the license.
- 1). Complete all the steps required to become an apprentice plumber.
- 2). Upgrade your license to that of a journeyman plumber.
- 3). Complete the state master's plumber license application and pay the requisite fee.
- 4). Pass the state's master plumber examination.
