I have been doing a job and freelancing for over seven years now.
And during that time I have been with only two different companies.
I am a professional content developer / blogger and have been writing for a number of blogs in my free time.
I have been asked a lot by my colleagues that which is the better way to earn some extra bit of cash.
And every time my answer is the same, do freelance work in your relevant field.
This is my personal opinion and many professionals will disagree with it.
Let us see which one of these options is better.
Overtime is the work you do after your office hours for the same company that you work for.
Of course it is paid and in some cases, you can get a very handsome amount for it.
People have been doing overtime for a long time in the corporate sector.
This involves weekends and any other free time that you have on your hand.
It can be anything related to your line of work, your job description and the company that you are working for.
Freelancing on the other hand is quite different from overtime.
Freelancing is when you work for other companies on any given project.
The other main difference is that you can do different kinds of work in freelancing.
For example if you are a website designer and fancy writing blogs, you can write for other companies.
Or you can design website for other people and charge them for your services.
Usually large corporations don't allow their employees to work for other companies during their job tenure.
But in some cases they allow them only if it is not affecting the office work.
If you are an expert in your relevant field, then you can get handsomely paid for the freelance work that you do.
I personally like to do freelancing and have been doing it for a long time now.
The reason I like to do it is because I make up my schedule according to my personal life and can pick and choose what kind of work I want to do.
My office shift runs at regular times and after I relax for a few hours at home, then I take up the projects that I am working on.
Usually my line of work does not require overtime like many other professions.
But some professions like jobs in marketing, jobs in accounts and audit, jobs in QA testing etc.
can have overtime or employees and if I was in their shoes, I would do that as well.
I believe freelancing and overtime can help polish your skills and can also help you learn other skills as well.
And the best part is that you can earn extra green to help you with the overheads that you have.
