Essential Good Nutrition for Cancer Patients.

There are many advertisements about vitamins especially vitamin C.There are also "natural vitamin Cs sold by networking. Which aretrue? Will taking 500 mg vitamin C daily drive away cancer?

What is it?

Vitamins and minerals are important substances needed by the body for its normal processes to be carried out. They are the nutrients in "GLOW" foods. They can be taken in, either from natural sources or a as supplement because the body can't produce it or is inadequately produced. Vitamin C or ascorbic acid is known for its antioxidant activity. It is also helpful in the absorption of non-heme iron, which is iron from plant sources. It also helps in the conversion of dopamine to norepinephrine, which are important in nerve conduction. It is also helpful in connective tissue metabolism and in metabolism of some drugs.

There have been claims that diets rich in vitamin C can lower the incidence of esophageal and gastric cancers. Some reports also say that high dose vitamin C of 1 to 2 grams per day has been noted to shorten the duration of upper respiration tract infections, although there are also contradictory reports regarding this.

The best sources of vitamins are from natural foods. Citrus fruits, green leafy vegetables, tomatoes, and potatoes are rich in vitamin C. Abundant in the local market are pechay, cauliflower, guava, mangoes, papaya, strawberry, and tiesa.

Deficiency in vitamin C often occurs among the poor elderly and alcoholics. Smoking, hemodialysis, stress, and infections can increase the vitamin C requirement.

Here are My Tips and Information for You:

Don't take more than one gram (100 mg) of vitamin C as maintenance since it has no further benefits because only 50 percent of this is absorbed at this dose. More than two grams (2000mg) per day can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, and nausea. It can also elevate liver enzymes. High dose vitamin C per se does not cause kidney stone formation, but it can be harmful to those who already have an underlying kidneDon't believe everything that is advertised on TV and in magazines! Advertisement may just be for business or for sensationalism. If you have doubts about what is claimed, ask experts to verify-your doubts and questions or any health authorities. The internet also abounds with information regarding antioxidants, but beware because "just anybody" can put anything there, especially if it is to their advantage, but not all is going to take advantage.

Remember also that anything in excess can be harmful. The Bible, which is God's word, tells us to be temperate I everything.

Hope This Helps
