- 1). Open one of the MS Office programs such as MS Word or Excel.
- 2). Click the Office icon located in the top-left corner of the screen. It is a circle with the MS Office logo.
- 3). Click "Word Options" at the bottom of the drop-down window. This will open the "Word Options" window.
- 4). Click the "Resources" link found at the bottom of the left pane. This will bring up a list of options in the right-side pane.
- 5). Click "About" located at the bottom of the list of options in the right pane. This will open the "About Microsoft Office" window.
- 6). Find the "This product is licensed to:" and the "Product ID:" located in the middle area of the window. If you see the term OEM on either of these, the product can only legally be used on that computer. If the product shows a Product ID number but doesn't state OEM, then the software can be transferred to another computer. Keep in mind that you will no longer be able to legally use it on the old computer unless you purchase an additional license.
